Etsy fees, in plain language

An Etsy sale is usually charged more than the 6.5% transaction fee. You also pay a listing fee, payment processing, and sometimes offsite ads. Confirm the current amounts on Etsy’s fee page before you set a price.

The fees on a sale

Etsy bills several fees, and they do not all happen at the same moment. A listing fee is charged when you publish a listing and again when that listing renews. The transaction fee is 6.5% of what the buyer pays for the item, including the shipping you charge them. Payment processing is separate: a percent of the order plus a small fixed amount, and the rate depends on the country of the shop’s bank. Offsite ads is an extra percent on orders that come from Etsy’s ads off the site, and it applies only to those orders.

Those names are the published fee types. The dollar amounts and the offsite-ads percent change, and some countries add a regulatory fee. Check the current schedule on Etsy’s Fees & Payments page before you treat any number as your cost.

Why 6.5% is not the full cut

If you price a ring as though Etsy keeps 6.5%, the payment fee and a possible offsite-ads fee never enter the list price. The sale can still look profitable in the listing and come out short after the deposit. A shop that sells through search ads and a shop that sells from its own traffic do not keep the same share of the same list price.

Add the percents that actually apply to that channel, then solve for the list price. Subtracting 6.5% from a price you already like is a different sum, and it usually leaves less than your target.

A planning model, not Etsy’s rate card

Pricing Ledger does not download Etsy’s live fee table. A new store starts with two example channels you can edit. Etsy ads / search is 20% for ads and search attribution plus 8% for payments. Etsy organic is 6.5% for the transaction fee plus 8% for payments. Together those are 28% and 14.5% of the list price. They are a planning model so you can see two list prices from one landed cost. They are not Etsy’s published rate card.

Replace either percent with the fees your shop actually pays. If offsite ads applies to a channel, add that percent there. If you sell from your own site, use a smaller fee instead of copying the Etsy channel.

What to do with the number

Write down landed cost first: materials, labor, and shipping. Pick the markup you want on that cost after fees. Then let the channel percent raise the list price until the net still hits that markup. The same landed cost needs a higher list price on the ads channel than on the organic channel, because the fee percent is higher.

Etsy’s own schedule is on the Fees & Payments page. Confirm the current amounts there before you lock a price.
