What you pay to list and to sell on Etsy
Publishing a listing costs the listing fee. Selling it costs the transaction fee, payment processing, and sometimes offsite ads. Put the selling percents into the list price. Treat the small listing fee as part of landed cost or as a flat fee.
When you publish
The listing fee is charged in US dollars when the listing goes live. Etsy also charges it again when the listing renews, including after a sale if the listing renews automatically. It is a fixed amount per listing, not a percent of the price. For a single expensive piece it is a small share of the order. For a cheap item, or for a listing you renew many times without a sale, it matters more.
Confirm the current listing fee on Etsy’s fee page. Shops often plan around the long-standing US$0.20 charge, but you should use the figure Etsy shows for your shop.
When the item sells
The transaction fee is 6.5% of the item price plus the shipping and gift wrap the buyer pays. Payment processing is calculated on the amount processed and includes a fixed portion, so it is not only a percent. Offsite ads, when the order came from those ads, is another percent on that order. A regulatory operating fee can apply in some countries.
None of these replace each other. A shop that adds only the transaction fee to its cost is leaving out the payment fee on every order.
Fold the percents into the list price
A percent of the list price cannot be added on top of cost as if it were a material. If you want ₹100 after a 20% fee, the list price has to be higher than ₹120, because the fee is taken from the higher number. The calculator solves that directly: the list price is set so your net, after the percent and any flat fee, is your target markup on landed cost.
A fixed listing fee fits as a flat fee or as a small line in landed cost. Percent fees — transaction, payments, ads — belong on the channel, because they scale with the price.
One cost, two Etsy prices
Take a landed cost of 1,130 and a target markup of 45%. On the example Etsy ads / search channel (20% + 8% payments), the list price is about 2,758. On the example Etsy organic channel (6.5% + 8% payments), it is about 2,075. Both leave a 31% margin on the selling price, because the markup is the same. The ads price is higher only because the fee percent is higher.
These two channels are the store’s starting planning model. Edit the percents to match your shop, then read the new list price. The formula does not change when the percent does.
Etsy’s own schedule is on the Fees & Payments page. Confirm the current amounts there before you lock a price.
